Surrendering our Homeschool
Surrendering our Homeschool: Laying it all at the feet of Yeshua
As another homeschool year begins, I find myself again at the feet of Yeshua—empty hands, open heart, knees bent in surrender.
I come with a planner full of color-coded dreams, a shelf full of curriculum, and a mind swirling with expectations. But more than all that, I come with a quiet ache: a deep desire for Him to lead this year, not me.
Because the truth is—I’ve tried doing it my way. I’ve followed the “perfect” schedule. I’ve stuck to someone else’s routine. I’ve clung to checklists like they were life preservers. But at the end of the day, if He’s not at the center… I’m just spinning my wheels.
🙌 Surrender: A Sacred Starting Point
Homeschooling was never our backup plan—it was a faith step. A leap into the unknown.
For many of us, it meant giving up a second income. For some, it meant releasing career goals. For others, it meant walking away from familiar rhythms, comfort zones, and cultural expectations. Homeschooling itself is an act of surrender. A willingness to say:
“Yeshua, I trust You more than I trust the system. I believe Your ways are better, even when they don’t make sense on paper.”
That’s where surrender began… but it doesn’t stop there.
📅 Surrendering the Year, Month, Week, and Day
Every new homeschool year is a fresh beginning.
It’s a chance to lay down our ideas and ask Him:
“What do You want for our year, Lord?”
What if our first lesson of the year wasn’t phonics or math, but prayer?
What if our best resource wasn’t a curriculum, but the Holy Spirit?
Each month, we can pause and ask:
“Yeshua, what are You doing in our hearts this month? Where do You want to grow us?”
Each week, we can realign our focus:
“What battles do I need to stop fighting in my own strength? Where are You asking me to trust?”
And each day, we can wake up and whisper:
“Not my will, but Yours be done.”
This rhythm of surrender isn’t weakness—it’s worship.
💔 The Emotion of Letting Go
Surrender is not easy. It's not tidy or Pinterest-perfect.
It often comes with tears. Frustration. Grief over what we thought this year would be. Disappointment when a child struggles. Fear that we’re failing.
But Yeshua never asked us to be perfect homeschool parents.
He asked us to follow Him.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him,
and He will make your paths straight.”
(Proverbs 3:5–6)
That “straight path” doesn’t always mean easy.
But it does mean guided. Covered. Held.
🕊️ What Surrender Looks Like in Real Life
Surrender in homeschool might look like:
Closing the book early to minister to a child’s heart.
Choosing rest over rushing.
Setting aside your plan for His presence.
Swapping out curriculum when the Spirit nudges.
Saying “no” to comparison.
Trusting that slow progress is still progress.
Praying before planning.
It’s trusting that the One who called you is also the One who equips you.
It’s believing that the fruit of this homeschool is more than grades—it’s character, connection, and faith.
✨ A Prayer of Surrender for the Homeschooling Parent
"Abba, I surrender this homeschool year to You.
I lay down my expectations, my fears, and my pride.
Show me what You want to build in our home this year.
Teach me to listen for Your voice, to follow Your promptings,
to parent and teach with gentleness and grace.
When I’m tired, be my strength.
When I’m unsure, be my wisdom.
When I want control, remind me to trust.
Lead me, Yeshua. I surrender all. Amen."
💛 Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
Homeschooling isn’t about having it all together.
It’s about walking by faith—step by step, day by day—in obedience to the One who called us.
May this year be marked not by how much we accomplish, but by how deeply we surrendered.
Not by how perfectly we performed, but by how faithfully we followed.
May we all lay our plans at the feet of Yeshua—and watch Him do more than we could ever ask or imagine.
